the shining horizon

now and then comes the radiance

soul to soul, gentle brilliance

a tightrope spans from beyond to behind

we spread our arms and walk the line

from the starfish to the twinkling stars

from the minnows to the meteor showers

from the clouds so white to the comet flights

these Autumn days to their moonlit nights

still the darkness yields to the dawn

still the rainbows follow the storm

sometimes you see it from the shore

      the shining horizon

troubles come, words run away

for the moment you’ve got nothing to say

sometimes silence is a relief

a temporary suspension of disbelief

from the maple key, to the milky way

from the grain of sand to the galaxy next door

the dragonfly to the dreaming sky

from the baby’s cry to the lullaby

      from spider webs to constellations

      who draws the shimmering lines?

      silver strands and starry bands

      who spins the whirlwind designs?

still the darkness yields to the dawn

still the rainbows follow the storm

sometimes you see it from the shore

            the shining horizon
